BERKELEY COUNTY, W.Va. - One person is dead and another seriously injured following a fiery, single-vehicle accident on Route 45 late Sunday night.

According to troopers with the West Virginia State Police, the accident happened just after 10 p.m., in the 2100 block of Shepherdstown Road near Blairton Road. They say the vehicle traveled about 350 ft. before striking the guardrail at the intersection.

Upon arrival troopers say they found a black 2005 Dodge four door car overturned and on fire. Senior Trooper D.M. Hart said he saw one man get out of the vehicle and lay on the edge of the roadway.

Multiple fire departments arrived on the scene and were able to extinguish the flames.

The driver of the vehicle, Gregg Allen Brake, 18, of Jefferson, Md., was pronounced dead on scene. The passenger, Erik Isiaha Sewell, 23, of Brunswick, Md., was flown to Winchester Medical Center with serious injuries.

According to troopers, it is believed the vehicle was driving westbound along the roadway, when for an unknown reason, went off the road and struck an embankment. It then got back on the westbound lane and traveled off the roadway again before going into an embankment. From there, the vehicle got back on the roadway where it rolled onto its top.

Both the east and westbound lanes of Shepherdstown Road were shut down for about three hours. The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing. If anyone has any information regarding this crash they're asked to call the West Virginia State Police Martinsburg barrack at (301)-267-0001 or (304)-267-0000.
