HAGERSTOWN, Md. - Hagerstown police are investigating a car accident that sent one man to the hospital Tuesday morning.

Officers say the car slammed into the side of a building in the 400 block of North Locus Street. The crash shut down the roadway between Broadway and North Locus Street for about 45 minutes. The roadway has since reopened.

One person was trapped inside their vehicle, and rescue crews tell WHAG they had to use the jaws of life to cut the driver out.

"We didn't have a car into a building. It was just up against the side of the building. No structural damage. We did have a person in the driver seat up against the building complaining of injuries," said Capt. Adam Hopkins, Hagerstown Police Department.

The driver was transported to Meritus Medical Center for treatment.
