Online Portal More Interactive for Parents and Teachers

"We have the ability to see their grades real time, we can see their attendance. I was actually able to see their report cards before they came home so that was a good feature," said Shanon Whaley, who uses ParentVUE for her two WCPS students.
WASHINGTON COUNTY, Md. - With one click or tap on your smartphone, Washington County parents are getting connected.

"It's pretty neat to be able to sit there and hold our phone up and say here, look what you did on your score," said Shanon Whaley, who uses ParentVUE for her two WCPS students.

It's the new county wide online parent portal called Synergy ParentVUE and it's giving parents access to virtually anything for their student.

"We have the ability to see their grades real time, we can see their attendance. I was actually able to see their report cards before they came home so that was a good feature," said Whaley.

Teachers say they can be more interactive with parents and students.

"If a student misses class to click the assignment, download from their home computer have the student complete the assignment at home," said Patty Roth, 7th grade teacher at Northern Middle School. "If they're having trouble we can upload resources such as weblinks, there's just so many different advantages that we can use and communicate that way to the parents."

But there are a few things teachers would add to this new system.

"It could be something that is in the works, where we could upload pictures of the kids projects, things to kind of make the kids feel special about what they had done in class. We don't have that option with the new system. I would like to see that added back," said Roth.

School officials also say for families with multiple students in the school system, they only need one ParentUVE log in to access their information.
