Operation Sparkle Brings Holiday Cheer to Frederick

Hundreds of visitors voted for the best holiday window display, and Muse along North Market Street won.
FREDERICK, Md. - Businesses in downtown Frederick showed their creative side for a window decorating contest.

The Downtown Frederick Partnership sponsored Operation Sparkle, and about 30 stores took part in the friendly competition.

"We hope that Operation Sparkle kind of kicks off the holiday season. Our Frosty Friday event and this competition are made to kick off the holiday season and bring the holiday cheer to everyone who works in downtown Frederick and also everyone that visits," said Brittany Diehl, promotion and social media manager for the Downtown Frederick Partnership.

Hundreds of visitors voted for the best holiday window display, and Muse along North Market Street won. Their display features doilies to create a snow globe effect.

"It really is just a great way to enhance the holiday spirit in downtown Frederick, give our visitors something fun to look at, and also to encourage businesses to be creative and think outside the box," Diehl said.

Those with the partnership hope the contest makes downtown Frederick even more festive for the holiday season.

"One of the great things about downtown Frederick is its unique charm, and I think that by encouraging merchants to participate in a window decorating contest and to make their store fronts look even nicer than they already are just really enhances that charm," Diehl said.

The Downtown Frederick Partnership will have pictures of Operation Sparkle contestants on their Facebook page by Tuesday. You can view the page by clicking here.
