Woman Fatally Struck by Train; Police Search for Possible Second Victim

Officials in Jefferson County say one person, possibly two, were hit by a train in the area of East German Street around 10 p.m. Monday.

Shepherdstown, W.Va. -  Officials spent hours on the scene of an accident involving a pedestrian who was hit by a train Monday night. The incident happened in the area of East German Street and Mills Street.

Officials with the West Virginia State Police, Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Shepherdstown Police Department, as well as fire and emergency medical crews were called to the scene by Norfolk Southern railroad officials around 10 p.m. Monday.

Police confirmed that a 50-year-old woman died on scene after being hit by a train. Officers say they're also looking for a male, about 6'0" tall wearing camouflage.  It wasn't clear if he had been hit by the train as well or was just missing following the incident.

Officers holding flashlights were seen walking around the area of the tracks as a crowd of onlookers gathered in the area.  The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
