Randy McClement Wins Second Term as Frederick Mayor

"I'm very honored, very privileged that the citizens of Frederick have put their trust and faith in me to do four more years."
FREDERICK, Md. - Republican candidate Randy McClement has been unofficially re-elected to serve as mayor in the City of Frederick.

McClement enjoyed some laughter with his volunteers and supporters at Brewer's Alley after winning his second term as mayor with 48 percent of the vote.

"I'm very honored, very privileged that the citizens of Frederick have put their trust and faith in me to do four more years," McClement said. "I think it shows that we've done a great job managing finances, providing services, and the fact that they've voted me in one more time, I think that's great."

Democrat Karen Young came in second place with 31 percent of the vote, and Independent candidate Jennifer Dougherty won 19 percent of the vote.

McClement is looking forward to some relaxation now that the campaigning is over.

"It's nice to not have to get up and think about how I'm going to do that I need to do as mayor and then run home and run a campaign," McClement said. "That's going to be the nicest thing to not have to worry about the other part of the job you have to do during a campaign season."

McClement says he's glad the people in Frederick put their trust into him for another four years, and he says he already has plans for where he wants to take the city during his second term.

"We need to continue to provide a sound financial basis for our city," McClement said. "We can't move forward with a lot of the extra stuff until we know that we have the finances to handle the basic services that the citizens request."

These are goals McClement hopes to make a reality now that he's Frederick's mayor for the second time.

The election numbers are unofficial until absentee ballots are counted on Thursday.

Election officials say this was a good turnout for a city election. They say about 21 percent of registered voters cast a ballot.
