Ruptured Gas Line Temporarily Shuts Down I-70 and Route 63

Maryland State Police say Interstate-70 eastbound was shut down Tuesday after a ruptured gas line.
WASHINGTON COUNTY, MD- Maryland State Police say Interstate-70 eastbound was shut down Tuesday after a ruptured gas line.

Police say it happened in the area of Route 63.

Maryland State Police say I-70 reopened around noon, and both lanes of Route 63 were reopened around 2 p.m.

Police say the eastbound lanes of I-70 were temporarily shut down while crews worked to repair the ruptured line.

"So we had the potential to have I-70 shutdown for awhile, but thanks to close coordination with the Maryland State Police, Washington County Emergency Services, as well as various fire departments, we were able to avoid that," says Stephen Bucy, project site manager.

State Police say Columbia Gas was still reported to be on the scene around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday making repairs.
