Senate Passes "Adopt a Shelter-Dog Week"

In Pennsylvania, the Senate voted unanimously on Wednesday to designate a week in October as "Adopt a Shelter-Pet Week."
WHAG NEWS - In Pennsylvania, the Senate voted unanimously on Wednesday to designate a week in October as "Adopt a Shelter-Pet Week."

Senator Rich Alloway (R) says the week will be from October 20th to the 26th. Officials say six to eight-million pets enter shelters each year, with as many as four-million euthanized.

In a written statement Alloway said, "The over population of animals presents a serious problem for many communities, and the resources of animal shelters have faces strain during the recession."

Officials are hoping residents will show their support by adopting a pet from their local shelter. In recognition of Adopt a Shelter-Pet Week, Alloway and Sen. Andy Dinniman (D) will host a Bring Your Dog to Harrisburg rally on October 22 to announce a set of bills aimed to protect pets.

More information on the rally and an upcoming press conference are available here
