Ski Season In Full Swing As Snow Hits the Region

All of the wintry weather not only gave local students a few days off from school, but it helped boost the start of ski season.
MERCERSBURG, Pa. - All of the wintry weather not only gave local students a few days off from school, but it helped boost the start of ski season.

The Four State area's seen more snow in the past several days than all of last season, which may be bad for drivers trying to get from point A to point B, but good for kids who get the day off from school.

And great for ski lovers.

"We want the fresh snow," said Tammy Barnes, of Hagerstown.

Whitetail Resort is enjoying one of the earliest season openings they've ever had, and with all of the fresh powder, they're seeing a lot of people on the mountain.

"This has been perfect, definitely for the early opening and just, it looks like it's going to be a good season all around if these temperatures hold up,” said Katrina Gayman, Marketing and Sales Director for Whitetail Resort. “Which it looks like they're going to, it's going to be perfect for us.”

And perfect for Eric Bender, 11, of Clear Spring, who jumped at the chance to hit the slopes instead of the books Tuesday.

"My dad asked me if I wanted to go snowboarding, and right away I said yes," said Eric Bender.

"It's perfect. Our slogan ‘Take a Snow Day,’ certainly has been perfect for the past couple of days so we're very excited about it," said Gayman.

Katrina also said the next week will be great for snow-making because of the chilly temperatures.

They're opening more trails by the day with an expert level expected to open Wednesday.

Officials with Whitetail Resort said in addition to all of the snow they make, they've also seen a half foot of fresh powder since the weekend. They said it's already the best season they've had in the past several years.
