Teacher from Ranson Charged with Driving Drunk to Elementary School

Deputies with the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office say Gregory A. Wuenschel, 48, teaches physical education Cedar Lane Elementary School in Ashburn, Virginia.
LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va.  - An elementary school teacher from Ranson, W.Va., is facing a DUI charge after school officials reported a possibly intoxicated staff member. 

Deputies with the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office say Gregory A. Wuenschel, 48, teaches physical education at Cedar Lane Elementary School in Ashburn, Virginia. The incident was reported to a deputies by school officials on Wednesday. 

The investigation determined Wuenschel drove to the school intoxicated. He was charged with driving without a license and possession of alcohol on school property in addition to the driving under the influence charge.

Wuenschel was being held at the Loudoun County Detention Center before being released on $2,500 bond.

Loudoun County Public Schools Public Information Officer, Wayde Byard said, "We hold ourselves to the same standards we hold the students to there's no exception for staff, staff here did exactly what they should've done they saw something unusual they reported it."

According to the school district, Wuenschel had no individual contact with the students that day. Byard tells WHAG Wuenschel has been working with the school district for nine years.

Wuenschel is currently on administrative leave.
