Two Animals Die in Salvage Yard Fire in Frederick County

The blaze was reported by a passerby around 3:40 a.m. on 5242 Sidney Road in Mt. Airy.
MT. AIRY, Md. - Officials with the Frederick County Fire Marshal's Office are investigating a salvage yard fire that killed two dogs Thursday morning.  

The blaze was reported by a passerby around 3:40 a.m. on 5242 Sidney Road in Mt. Airy. 

Fire and Rescue crews said when they arrived on the scene, the wood frame of the storage building, owned by M & S industries was completely engulfed in flames. 

Crews said along with fighting the fire, they also worked on preventing the flames from spreading to a nearby home. 

Two dogs were found dead inside the garage, according to crews on scene. 

About 40 firefighters responded to the scene. The fire was brought under control about 40 minutes later, at 5:15 a.m. Estimated damages are around $100,000. 

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Anyone that may have witnessed the fire or has information is asked to call the Frederick County Fire Marshal's Office at (301)-600-1479.
