Two Arrested in LaVale Bank Robbery

Officials in Allegany County say two people are behind bars in connection to a bank robbery that happened in LaVale Tuesday morning.
LAVALE, Md. - Officials in Allegany County say two people are behind bars in connection to a bank robbery that happened in LaVale Tuesday morning.

Investigators with the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit say William Miller Jr., 47, of Shade Gap, Pa., and Chelsea Morrison-Mikolajczk, 27, of North East, Md., both have been charged with robbing the Susquehanna Bank on National Highway, and that Miller has also been charged with robbing the same bank on Aug. 28.

Police say the pair walked into the bank around 10 a.m. Tuesday. They say Miller went behind the counter and confronted the tellers, saying he had a gun and demanded money. He then went through the teller money drawers and took an undisclosed amount of cash, as Morrison-Mikolajczk acted as a lookout.

The two left through the rear of the bank. Police say while the two were walking across the street a dye pack inside the satchel carrying the stolen money exploded.
At that point police say a resident saw them sorting through the dye packs and then getting into a car parked adjacent to the bank. That resident called police and was able to give a good description of the getaway car, which was broadcasted to all law enforcement agencies.

The vehicle was spotted a short time later by an Allegany County Trail Ranger on National Highway at Long Drive. They say the suspect vehicle struck another car, and continued driving. Members of the Maryland State Police and Allegany County Sheriff's Office also spotted the vehicle on National Highway and a short chase pursued. The vehicle eventually stopped on Route 36 in Corringanville, Md., near Motor City where police were able to take the two into custody.

State Police say a search warrant was conducted on the vehicle and recovered the money stolen from the bank, a black satchel and a pistol BB gun. Evidence was also recovered related to the bank robbery that occurred at the same Susquehanna Bank branch on Aug. 28.

The incident is still under investigation by the Maryland State Police and C3I.
