FRONT ROYAL, Va. - The Front Royal Police Department arrested two men last Friday after they say the two threatened a man with a BB gun and attempted to rob him.

The incident happened last Wednesday, Sept. 25 on the corner of Chester and Main Street.

Police say Mathew Tyler Berkowitz, 20, and Cody Allan Smallwood, 20 approached Andrew MacMillan, 19, as he was sitting on a park bench on the corner of the two streets. They say the two men threatened MacMillian and said he need to 'take a walk' with them.

Police say during the incident a firearm was displayed, which later was confirmed to be a CO2 BB gun. MacMillian told police the BB gun was handled in a manner that made him fearful. MacMillan's wallet was rifled through, and then given back without anything being removed. He was able to walk away from the scene unharmed.

Merkowitz and Smallwood have both been charged with attempted robbery, conspiracy, abduction and use of firearm in commission of a felony. Both are being held at the Warren County Jail without bond.

Cheif Shiflett with the Front Royal Police Department says detectives are still working on leads related to this case in addition to several other cases related to Merkowitz and Smallwood.
