Two Men Arrested in Attempted Armed Robbery and Assault

It happened around 2:13 p.m. Wednesday, December 11, in the 1000 block of Maryland Avenue, near the South End Shopping Center.
HAGERSTOWN, Md. - Officers with the Hagerstown Police Department say they've arrested two men in connection to an attempted armed robbery and assault this week near the South End Shopping Center. 

It happened around 2:13 p.m. Wednesday, December 11, in the 1000 block of Maryland Avenue, near the South End Shopping Center. 

The man told police he was walking behind the shopping center when two men approached him asking for a lighter. The victim says as he went to get a lighter from his pocket, one of the men hit him on the side of the head with a hammer, while the other displayed a handgun. 

The men demanded money from the victim, but luckily he was able to run away before any of his property was taken. 

During the course of the investigation, police say the two men have been identified as Denzel Lamo Johnson and Shane Louis Johnson, both of Hagerstown. Both are facing charges of armed robbery and assault.
