Two People Flown to the Hospital in Tractor Trailer Crash on I-81

Currently the northbound lane between exits 10-14 is shut down and we're hearing reports of Route 11 being back up as well, due to the accident.

GUILFORD TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Troopers with Pennsylvania State Police Chambersburg barrack say two people were flown to the hospital Tuesday evening after a serious accident on Interstate-81 involving a tractor trailer.

Currently the northbound lane between exits 10-14 is shut down and we're hearing reports of Route 11 being backed up as well, due to the accident.

State Police and EMS units are still currently on the scene. The accident was reported around 5:03 p.m. by exit 13 on the northbound side, when police say a tractor trailer struck a vehicle that was stopped on the berm of the interstate.

The driver of the tractor trailer initially fled the scene on foot, but state police say he was caught in the Cebco gas station restroom a short time later.

The two people inside the vehicle were flown to York Hospital with serious injuries.

According to police, both northbound and southbound lanes were closed for about two hours. The southbound lanes have since reopened, however the northbound lanes will remain closed for an unknown amount of time.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is still ongoing.
