Two Taken to Hospital I-81 Multi-Vehicle Pileup

Several vehicle pile-ups on Interstate-81 southbound in Washington County caused a shut down on the highway for several hours Sunday.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Md. - The winter snow storm blanketed much of the four-state region at a very fast rate, leading to several car pile-ups.

Interstate-81 southbound near Maugans Avenue and Salem Avenue opened back up around 3:40 p.m. Sunday.

The interstate was shut down beginning around 11:30 a.m. Traffic came to a complete stop as everyone sat in their cars for hours, waiting for the line of cars to start moving.

Washington County dispatchers say about two people were transported to a local hospital for minor injuries. A tractor trailer was flipped to its side but no one was severely hurt.

Dispatchers also say the Maryland State Police were handling the accident.
