MARTINSBURG, WV - The Berkeley County Sheriff's Department says a man was killed in a tragic train accident that happened Friday in Martinsburg. Deputies have identified the man as 43 year-old Vincent Brown.
According to deputies, it happened in the area of Polo Greene Drive around 6:30 p.m. Friday evening. The Berkeley County Sheriff's Department says a four-car CSX train hit the Brown, who walked onto the tracks from McMillan Court.
Deputies say the man was wearing ear buds and did not see or hear the train.
A conductor tried to warn him and stop the train, but authorities say it was too late. Deputies say Brown was pronounced dead at the scene.
"Really you shouldn't be on the tracks at all. I mean you know there are exceptions for regulating crossings and so forth but you know they can cite you for being on the tracks," says Sheriff Lemaster with the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies say no one should ever walk on the train tracks or wear headphones near the tracks.
