Water Main Break in Martinsburg

A water main break is affecting at least two subdivisions in Berkeley County.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A water main break is affecting at least two subdivisions in Berkeley County Friday morning.

It's located northbound of Mercedes Drive and Blairton Road in Martinsburg.

The Department of Highways discovered the break around 4 a.m. Friday. Officials say the break caused a sinkhole on a residence's property and affected parts of the roadway. Currently, the water is shut off in two subdivisions and detours have been set up for the morning commutes.

The local bus garage has been notified and will be working to get schools buses in and out of the neighbors safely.

As of right now, more than 40 people in the neighborhood are without water. It's unclear when the roadways will reopen and service returns.

The Berkeley County Public Service Water District is currently on the scene replacing the broken pipe.
