Waynesboro Hospital Birthing Unit Here to Stay

According to a written release, the new staffing model recommended to the board of directors by hospital leaders includes three OB/Gyn physicians and three midwives.
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Members with the Summit Health Board of Directors approved a recommendation Tuesday afternoon to keep the Waynesboro Hospital Birthing Unit open.

Officials say hospital leaders were evaluating options to keep the unit open after losing one OB/Gyn from Summit Women's Group-Waynesboro earlier this year. According to a written release, the new staffing model recommended to the board of directors by hospital leaders includes three OB/Gyn physicians and three midwives.

The hospital's birthday unit employees were the first to suggest the new staffing model of physicians and midwives when hospital leaders began meeting with them to talk about the process several weeks ago, according to the release.

As we've reported, the possible cut to the Waynesboro Hospital's Birthing Center brought out a large number of community members on Monday night in protest.

Chief Operating Officer of Waynesboro Hospital Melissa Dubrow and other hospital leaders met with the Birthing Unit staff Tuesday morning and thanked them for their support during the process, members said.
