Waynesboro Pike Shuts Down Due to Fatal Accident

The accident was called in around 11:04 a.m. Tuesday morning, and state police are saying its a tractor trailer verses a passenger car.
FREDERICK COUNTY, Md. - Maryland State Police Frederick barrack and Frederick County Fire and Rescue are on the scene of the fatal accident along Rt. 140 in Emmitsburg. 

State police say Waynesboro Pike is being shut down at Tract Road due to the crash. 

The accident was called in around 11:04 a.m. Tuesday morning. State police say a tractor trailer was driving east along Route 140 out of Pennsylvania, when a passenger car traveling west out of Maryland started to fishtail and crashed into the tractor trailer on the snowy roadway. 

State police tell WHAG the crash caused the vehicle to spin out of control, ejecting the driver. 

Lt. May with MSP said the driver of the car was pronounced dead on scene. State police will not be releasing the driver's name until next of kin is notified. The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured. 

State police believe snow and speed were factors in the crash. 

Route 140 has been closed for almost three hours, and will remain closed as the investigation continues.
