Winchester Police See Decline in DUI Arrests

In Winchester, police say they arrested 11 people for driving under the influence of alcohol between December 1, 2013 and January 1, 2014. They say that's down from 30 that were charged during the same time last year.
WINCHESTER, Va. - Officers with the Winchester Police Department say their efforts to curb drunken driving during the holiday season has seemed to pay off. 

Police say they arrested 11 people for driving under the influence of alcohol between December 1, 2013 and January 1, 2014. They say that's down from 30 that were charged during the same time last year. 

According to the department, they had 10 saturation patrols between December 20, 2013 and January 1, 2014 as part of their Driver Sober or Get Pulled Over Campaign. During these checkpoints the following charges were made: 

  • Three arrested for DUI

  • Two charged with speeding

  • One charged with seat belt violation

  • 23 other traffic violations

  • Three charged with not having an operator's license

  • Two charged with having a suspended or revoked driver's license

  • Three drug charges

Officers say they would like to remind the public to take personal responsibility to not get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol.
