Wrong Way Driver Causes Fatal Accident on I-70

A preliminary investigation reveals alcohol may have been a factor in the accident.

FREDERICK COUNTY, Md.A car traveling in the wrong direction on Interstate-70 near Route 180 turned deadly on Saturday. Police have now released the identities of those involved in the fatal crash.

Chanae Moody of Baltimore was driving west on I-70 and was struck by Timothy Cornell Jr. of Frederick, who was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Interstate-70. 

Cornell's vehicle overturned and went over a guardrail and caught fire, before being extinguished by troopers. A passenger in the vehicle, Anush Chandrasekaran was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both Moody and Cornell were flown to area hospitals for treatment. A preliminary investigation indicates alcohol was a contributing factor in the collision. 

The Maryland State Police crash team assisted with the investigation.
