The Maryland General Assembly passed two laws this session. One adds additional deer Sunday hunting days in Frederick County when the season starts in September.
The Garrett, Allegany, and Washington County laws allow hunting of all game species in season on public and private land. The Frederick County law allows only deer hunting on Sundays.
"Well it's a little frustrating first of all because they know that we're not going to give up to start with. That we're here, we're not going nowhere," said Sandy Delauter, a woman hunter.
Edwards says a bow and arrow would not adequately protect hunters if a bear tried to attack them.
Commissioner Billy Shreve started a petition in November. Since then, he says it's gotten about 450 signatures.
“One or two deer is all I need. This is an opportunity to still hunt, have a place to get rid of the deer and give back to the community too."
"The health issues with deer include deforesting the forest, eating all the leaves as high as they can reach, making paths that create erosion and clog our streams and waterways, plus deer carry disease," Shreve (R) said.
