The National Weather Service has issued a *Winter Storm Warning* for the entire WHAG Viewing Area from 7:00 PM Sunday through 6:00 PM Monday for heavy snow, sleet and freezing rain anticipated tonight and into Monday. Here is how we see this event unfolding as we get into this evening and Monday:
Sunday Night: Rain changes to Wintry Mix of Sleet/Freezing Rain/Snow
Late Sunday (Around Midnight): Wintry Mix Changes to Snow
Monday: Heavy Snow Likely in the Morning Hours – Snow rates of 1” per hour possible…
Monday Afternoon: Snow Tapers Off – 5-10” Storm Total Accumulation.
The National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington, D.C. tells WHAG: Even though we have lowered expected snow totals across the area, this trend extends from the fact that the precipitation type of sleet/freezing rain later Sunday Evening and overnight will lead to slightly lower snow and sleet totals in the long run of the winter storm. Make no mistake about it, this is a dangerous winter storm of a little ice accumulation followed by several inches of snow and sleet. Power outages are a distinct possibility.”
This storm has been an extremely tricky one to forecast due to the projected position of the frontal boundary and the associated precipitation. There is the potential we could have to make further changes to the forecast as we get into the evening hours tonight based on how this situation unfolds.
Due to golf, WHAG News at 6:00 will not be seen, we’ll see you tonight for WHAG News at 11:00 PM.
Stay warm, and stay tuned!
